6/12/2023 0 Comments Promise me always al jacksonThe emotions were raw and bled from the pages. Feelings flourished and floundered between Milo who is a damaged hero haunted by the ghosts of his past and supportive, selfless heroine Tessa who is desperately holding on for mad love. No-one can write damaged broken characters, angsty intensely emotional turmoil and a twisted road to redemption quite like ALJ and, in this single Dad, friends-to-lovers, fake engagement relationship, she puts everything she’s got into the heartbreaking and heartwarming story. I’ll do anything to protect her, but it’s my past that might destroy her in the end. Now we’re falling into an abyss of passion and need. But she’s a redheaded flame I can’t resist, and I can’t help but take her to my bed. Tessa is everything I crave but can’t have. This gorgeous, tatted, mountain of a man who’s riddled with secrets. He’s only supposed to be my friend, but every time he comes in the room, he makes my knees weak. When he insists I stay at his cabin with him, he sparks the feelings I’ve tried to suppress. They are the one thing I have left to fight for.īattered and broken by my ex with no place to call home. I’m a dark, dangerous disaster who leaves destruction in his wake.īut when she offers to pretend to marry me to help me get my kids back, I can’t refuse. I should know better than to let Tessa McDaniels pretend to be my fiancée. 6/12/2023 0 Comments Garth stein racing in the rainBut Enzo, the dog, is witty, hilarious, immensely introspective, brilliant and sensitive. When you're an avid reader, you tend to immunize yourself to a really good laugh (or a good scare, although that wasn't at play here). But there were also many times when I laughed out loud, something I rarely do. There were many times where my tears were blurring my vision and I couldn't read further until I wiped my eyes sloppily. The book isn't short, but I read it on one Sunday. So when I read those first six pages and discovered how the story would unfold, I didn't think I could do it. As a doggy mom, I am more sensitive and I can't bear to think about certain things, whether peaceful or otherwise. I didn't buy the book then because, as an animal lover, I am especially sensitive to certain subjects. Although obviously written by a person (or my dog has some explaining to do as I was under the impression that dogs do not have opposable thumbs and can't write), it would be so interesting and heartwarming to read through a dog's perspective. Adorable and unique I have always wanted to know what it's like in the mind of a dog. I was pleasantly surprised to read the cover to find out it is written entirely from the perspective of a dog. I was meandering around Borders one Saturday when I saw a dog's head on the cover of a book, and since I am magnetized to animals (especially dogs), I had to pick it up and leaf through it. 6/12/2023 0 Comments Most dangerous game the bookIn the story, Rainsford arrives at General Zaroff’s house and the only people there are General Zaroff and his Cossack servant Ivan. Also another change that happened in the movie was when Rainsford went into Zaroff’s house and saw two other survivors/hostages. However in the movie, Rainsford arrives at the island because the boat sinks and the survivors of the sunken ship were eaten by a shark while they were in the water. In the book, Rainsford arrives at the island because he falls off the boat since his pipe fell overboard. Some of the changes in this movie are very different than some of the content in the original text. After watching the movie, I do not believe that many of his ideas are lost “lost in translation”. However, the changes that were made in this movie were not very different from what was in the story and it did not completely change the plot. The movie made changes such as adding a second set of prisoners, but also made changes by referring to General Zaroff as Count Zaroff. There were many differences between the story and the movie. However, an exception to Hollywood’s damage of literature would be in the 1932 Film adaptation of Richard O’Connell’s short story The Most Dangerous Game. 6/11/2023 0 Comments The witch haven bookWithin Haxahaven’s glittering walls, Frances finds the sisterhood she craves, but the headmistress warns Frances that magic is dangerous. But Frances finds Haxahaven isn’t a sanitarium at all: it’s a school for witches. Everything changes when she’s attacked and a man ends up dead at her feet-her scissors in his neck, and she can’t explain how they got there.īefore she can be condemned as a murderess, two cape-wearing nurses arrive to inform her she is deathly ill and ordered to report to Haxahaven Sanitarium. In 1911 New York City, seventeen-year-old Frances Hallowell spends her days as a seamstress, mourning the mysterious death of her brother months prior. The Last Magician meets The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy in this “spectacular, singular, and spellbinding” (Casey McQuiston, New York Times bestselling author of Red, White & Royal Blue) historical fantasy following a young woman who discovers she has magical powers and is thrust into a battle between witches and wizards. Her concern seems justified as Lucas, once ensconced, becomes completely ensnared in the turbulent past that seems to haunt the house - a past that is captured in old movie reels featuring Lucas's now-dead family: his charismatic uncle Patrick, his lovely mother, Claire, and his golden-boy father, Justin. But as they begin to find their way from friendship to romance, Joanna can't shake the feeling that the house is having its own effect on them.īack in London, Joanna is stunned when Lucas announces that he and their impetuous friend Danny are moving into Stoneborough full-time. Much to her surprise, he reveals that he's loved her for years. Lucas's best friend, Joanna, finds herself oddly affected by the cavernous manse, with its lavish mythological ceiling mural and sprawling grounds, and awakened to a growing bond with Lucas. Though still raw from the loss of his last family member, Lucas welcomes this tight-knit group of friends to the estate he hopes will become their home away from home-an escape from London where they can all relax and rekindle the revelry of their college days. They've been brought together by Lucas Heathfield, a young man who recently inherited the property after the tragic death of his uncle Patrick. On an icy winter weekend, seven friends celebrate New Year's Eve at Stoneborough, a grand manor in the English countryside. Standiford speculates that Scrooge, for example, was a "direct manifestation" from Dickens' estranged relationship with his father-a man whose financial irresponsibility ensured his son spent an impoverished childhood working long hours in a shoe factory. Mickelson echoed the notion in his interview with NPR: "Dickens would.take on the voices of all the different characters and make these faces in the mirror, and almost become the characters as he's writing." "Even when he was not working, he'd feel them tugging on his sleeve saying 'time to get back to work.'" But this is actually not far from the truth: Dickens considered his invented personalities "the children of his fancy," said Susan Coyne, the writer who adapted Standiford's book for the film. One of the film's wildest depictions is the author's habit of seeing and speaking out loud to his invented characters. "He even went on to write four more Christmas books but none were even nearly as successful as A Christmas Carol." "Dickens had no notion of what the festival would become today, but he was clearly onto something," author Les Standiford told TIME. An illustration for \’a christmas carol\' depicts bob cratchet carrying tiny tim on his shoulders.
